SEND Support Drop-In

Wednesday 1st December 10-11.30am

We are holding term-time only informal get-togethers for Parents Carers to come along and access information to support your child and their SEND needs.

Bedford Borough SENDIASS will also be available and can offer 30 minute bookable slots throughout the week for individual support, please email them sendiass@bedford.gov.uk.

This meeting is open to Parent Carers of a child with a recognised need accessing SEN support through their Education setting. Please join us for a chat.

Jenny Higham, the new team manager for the Early Years Support Team will be joining us to meet parents and talk about her service.

If you have a child in Bedford Borough age 0-5 with any kind of additional need (whether diagnosed or not) please join us for this online, informal discussion. You are very welcome whether you are already a member or not.

Working Memory Workshop

Monday 10th January - 10am-12pm

Does your child or a child you work with have issues with working memory? Does their brain store information in a jumbled way or not store it for very long?

 

The British Dyslexia Association are running this working memory session to help support you. They would start by explaining what it is, how it can impact on learning and then give some top tips on how we can support learners with those challenges. You only need to book on for one session.

Health Facilitation Service - Over 18's

Monday 24th January - 10am

The Health Facilitation Service supports people with a learning disability over the age of 18 to get the right healthcare, in the right place, at the right time. The community team supports people with GP appointments and health action plans as well as many other things. The Acute Liaison Team offer advice and support to people in the hospital, both as in patients and out patients.

Thursday 27th January and Thursday 3rd February 7pm

Join Nickie Sutton, experienced sleep practitioner and trainer, for sessions to learn more about sleep and how you can help children sleep better.

Thursday 27th January 2022 - 7pm

How and Why we Sleep – what our brains need us to do to sleep well.

Thursday 3rd February 2022 - 7pm

SEND and sleep – how sensory processing differences, autism, anxiety, ADHD and other conditions make sleep so much harder, and how you can help.

All sessions are 90 minutes long with time at the end for questions.

You will need to commit to attend both sessions; as the strategies discussed in part 2 relate back to what is covered in part 1.

School Nurses Get Together

Monday 7th February - 10am

We will have a representative from the Mainstream School Nursing and Special School Nursing teams. They will both join us to tell us a bit about their service and what they cover and will then be open to take questions from parents. Please have a think about what you would like to discuss with them and come along with some questions.

Autism Spectrum Advisory Teachers Get Together

Thursday 10th February - 10am

The Autism Spectrum Advisory Team offer a service which focuses on supporting children who have an Autism Spectrum diagnosis in addition to those whose behaviours could be attributed to social communication difficulties but do not have a diagnosis.

 

They will be joining us at this get together to talk to parents about their service and take questions. Please come and join us for this open discussion.

Eating Disorders - Focusing on ARFID

(Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder)

Monday 21st February - 10am

Following her presentation in Summer 2021 for our members we have asked Paola Falcoski, Advanced Specialist Eating Disorders Dietitian, to come and speak to our parents about Eating Disorders again. This time she will be focusing on ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) as many of our families have said they have this issue with their children.

For ARFID this service can only take referrals for children over the age of 12.
